Kathie began tutoring at NCICC in June of 2018 after hearing about the organization from a neighbor who attends the Solana Beach Presbyterian Church. She chose to get involved with NCICC because of its mission to help community members gain their citizenship. Kathie appreciates that NCICC helps with both the paperwork and finances of the naturalization process, which can often be daunting. Kathie has been particularly struck by the perseverance of the students she tutors. She realizes that between work and family, people have busy lives, and that this is a challenge to gaining citizenship. In response to the efforts that she sees these individuals make towards becoming American citizens, she says, "Their dedication is inspiring." Kathie loves interacting with people and seeing how hard they work. She finds it especially rewarding to listen to the students share their experiences with others after completing the test with USCIS. To anyone contemplating becoming a citizen, Kathie urges them to connect with NCICC: "They will guide you through the journey."
